The Saint Louis Cathedral, located in Port-Louis, was erected in the mid-1700s. Ranking amongst the oldest Churches in Mauritius, it is particularly known for undergoing several huge structural repairs throughout the last centuries due to numerous natural catastrophes. It initially started off as a chapel but was later promoted to being a Cathedral after its architecture was solidified. Its lion-headed fountain, its impressive stained glasswork and the thick trunks of the trees of its garden are definitely a good reason to stop by. Today, it remains a central place of worship for many Christians as it the seat of the bishop of the Diocese of Port-Louis.
