The main institutions of the EU are the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission. Since the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty in 2009, the EU has a High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and a new European Diplomatic Service, which, with 139 delegations and offices, is one of the largest in the world.
